Endless possibilities in timber with the ET-T screw

Endless possibilities in timber with the ET-T screw

With ET-T construction screws you get a safe and strong joint without timber engineering connectors or other fasteners. Here you will find tips and advice on how to use them.

Fast and neat installation with high clamping force

The ET-T construction screw is designed for joining the elements of timber structures. It works equally well in ordinary sawn timber as in glued laminated timber and cross-laminated timber (CLT). Thanks to its unique design, ET-T provides a safe and strong joint without timber engineering connectors or other fasteners.

The reduced head remains almost invisible and the self-drilling tip eliminates the need for pre-drilling. ET-T has a CorrSeal surface treatment, is approved for corrosion resistance class C4 and carries the CE marking.

Examples of use:

  • Floor joist to load-bearing main beam
  • Anchoring roof framing
  • Joining timber beams
  • Post to sole plate or beam
  • Support cleat under a beam

How does ET-T work?

Fast installation

No pre-drilling and fewer screws – installation is simply faster!

Up to 80 % less steel

3 ET-T screws can replace a timber engineering connector and 18 screws, which means 80 % less steel per joint.

Exceptional strength

ET-T often creates a stronger joint because it achieves better results in pull-out tests.

Tips from carpenter Simon!

If you have not tried ET-T construction screws yet, here are a few practical tips from Swedish carpenter Simon of S Bygg in Umeå:

  1. Draw a 30° angle on the lid of your ESSBOX case – it makes it easy to check that you are driving the screw in at the right angle!
  2. ET-T has two threads with different pitches and a short unthreaded section between them, which pulls the elements together. It is important that the unthreaded section lies in the joint between the timber elements being connected.

Installation tips

Keep this in mind before and during installation:

  • Do not combine different angles. When working with ET-T screws, make sure you do not combine different angles in the same joint – this can weaken the structure.
  • No thread between the timber elements. The unthreaded part of the screw must always lie in the joint between the timber elements to create a strong joint.
  • Installation angle. Under lateral load, install the screws so that they are loaded in tension. When installing into the end grain of a beam, the angle between the screw and the wood grain should be at least 30° so that the timber is not damaged.
  • Use system bits! For safe and smooth installation we recommend ESSVE system bits, which fit directly into a cordless screwdriver without an adapter.
  • Use a powerful cordless screwdriver and drive the screws in smoothly, without stopping. You will get the best results at 250 – 800 rpm and in dry timber.
