Building with adhesive – quick, easy and efficient with ESSVE foam adhesive
Building with adhesive – quick, easy and efficient with ESSVE foam adhesive
Do you dream of a Mediterranean garden with whitewashed low walls around raised beds? Find out how to build a sturdy low wall with the foam adhesive Stenlim Skum. With this solution, building will be quick and easy.

Stenlim Foam Fixer – a stone adhesive and much more!
With the stone adhesive Stenlim Foam Fixer you can build a Mediterranean-style garden bed with ease. Without water, buckets, mortar, a trowel or a mixer, you quickly achieve a neat and durable result. The ESSVE adhesive in a 750 ml can cures in just 10 minutes and leaves a smooth, clean surface without smears.
With the foam adhesive Stenlim Skum you shorten the breaks between the individual steps – you simply apply the adhesive with a foam gun, which saves time and makes your work more efficient. The gun allows precise application and easy control. The pack also includes a handy Y-shaped plastic nozzle that speeds up the work because the adhesive comes out in two beads. You can easily adjust the distance between the adhesive beads to the parallel grooves in Leca blocks (expanded clay blocks) with an ordinary knife.
Advantages of ESSVE stone adhesive
ESSVE Stenlim Skum foam adhesive expands in volume by 10 – 20 % as it cures, so it fills all the gaps perfectly. This gives you a strong and durable joint between the materials without the need for frequent repairs.
Step-by-step guide – how to build with ESSVE adhesive
If you want to replace traditional mortar with ESSVE Stenlim Skum foam adhesive, prepare the base thoroughly. If the base is not completely level, unevenness is harder to even out with adhesive than with mortar – so thorough preparation of the base is key. The base must also be well compacted to minimise the risk of settlement.
You will need:
- expanded clay blocks (e.g. Leca)
- Stenlim foam
- a foam gun
- render as needed, if you want a Mediterranean look.
How to build with adhesive
1. Clear the area for the bed
First sweep dirt and gravel off the area so that the base is ready.
2. Plan the build
Measure the area and sketch out the layout of the expanded clay blocks.
3. Lay the first course
Apply Stenlim Skum foam adhesive and lay the first course of expanded clay blocks. Repeat until the first layer of the wall is complete.
4. Continue building
You do not have to wait for the adhesive to dry – with ESSVE foam adhesive the joint grabs in just 10 minutes, so you can carry straight on with the next courses.
5. Finishing
If you want to achieve the full effect of a Mediterranean garden as in the photograph above, you can render the expanded clay blocks – they will get a nice look that suits your garden perfectly.

What you will need for installation
Remember that stone adhesive should not be used as a substitute for mortar in load-bearing structures or where compliance with the EN 998-2 standard is required.
