Questions and answers about the construction sealant ESSEAL ESS1

Questions and answers about the construction sealant ESSEAL ESS1

We answer frequent questions about our best-selling construction sealant ESSEAL ESS1, so that you know exactly how and when to use it.

When can I use the construction sealant ESSEAL ESS1?

It is a universal product suitable for most sealing jobs. ESSEAL ESS1 also carries CE marking for floors, facades, glazing and wet rooms.

What does CE marking mean?

Construction products covered by a harmonised (common) standard, or holding a European Technical Assessment (ETA), must have a declaration of performance and CE marking before they can be sold. The same rules apply throughout the EU/EEA, including Slovakia, as well as in Switzerland and Turkey.

There are four CE markings for sealants:

  • F – facades/walls
  • PW – floors and walkways
  • G – glazing, e.g. windows
  • S – sanitary joints/wet rooms

ESSEAL ESS1 carries CE marking for all four areas, which means it is fit for each of these uses according to a jointly agreed European standard.

Meeting the minimum requirements of the individual classes was not enough for our developers, though. ESS1 far exceeds the CE marking requirements so that it is the best choice for every use.

Which materials is the sealant not suitable for?

The sealant works on almost all materials, but not on greasy plastics such as PP, PE and PTFE.

Can the construction sealant be used both indoors and outdoors?

Yes, you can use the sealant both indoors and outdoors at temperatures from +5 to +40 °C.

The product also holds ISEGA certification for use in environments where it comes into contact with food.

How long does it take for the sealant to cure fully?

ESSEAL ESS1 cures with moisture from the air, so the curing time depends on how much moisture there is in the air.

For example, at 23 °C and 50% relative humidity it cures at least 2.5 mm in 24 hours.

Where is the product registered?

ESSEAL ESS1 is registered in Swedish and Nordic systems that assess construction products for chemical substances and environmental impact:

  • BASTA
  • Svanens husportal
  • Byggvarubedömningen
  • Sunda Hus

In addition, it holds EC1+ certification and is not classified as hazardous under the CLP Regulation.

Is the construction sealant made in several colours?

The sealant comes in white, light grey, dark grey, black and translucent.

The translucent sealant is unique on the market and has a milky tint. It is ideal for windows or anywhere the sealant should be as invisible as possible.

Can ESSEAL ESS1 be painted?

Yes, all colour variants of the sealant can be painted.

Can the sealant be used for other purposes too?

The construction sealant ESSEAL ESS1 also has good adhesive properties, so you can use it to bond simple mouldings, toilet bowls, hooks or thresholds.

How do I remove sealant residue from walls or clothes?

Uncured sealant is easiest to remove with our cleaning wipes, ideally combined with our cleaning spray. Cured sealant has to be removed mechanically.

How do I recycle the packaging?

You can put the empty cartridge straight into plastics recycling. The product is not classified as dangerous goods.
