ESSBOX+ – Swedish production and recycled plastic
Swedish production and recycled plastic
Minimal waste, energy savings in production and lower transport emissions. These are the three main strengths of the ESSBOX+ system, which was created so that you have your tools and fasteners fully under control.

Every screw counts
The production of steel products accounts for 78.9 % of ESSVE's total carbon footprint. A recent survey* shows that as many as 20 % of all screws bought are never used. They get lost, rust or are left lying unused.
As one of the largest manufacturers in the Nordic countries, we must work to ensure that every screw we make is actually used. That is why we developed the ESSBOX+ system – a storage and transport solution that makes carpenters' work easier in the workshop and on site. Moving production from Taiwan to Småland in Sweden also means lower transport emissions and lower energy consumption in production.
Facts about waste from the new survey*
- 52 % of Scandinavian tradespeople waste 5 to 10 % of their fasteners.
- 18.6 % estimate that they waste 10 – 20 %. That is a huge number of screws.
- 67.4 % admit that the order and overview of their tools and fasteners could be better. 11.6 % have no overview of them at all!
* The survey was carried out by Mantap Global AB on behalf of ESSVE and includes the answers of 258 professionals.
Plan ahead and do not overbuy
Plan your project carefully and buy screws according to the plan. Do not buy more than you need.
Keep track of your screws
Keep your screws under control! With a good overview, you do not need to buy twice as many screws as you probably already have... Somewhere...
Protect your screws from loss and rust
Building sites tend to be messy and the weather is unpredictable. Screws in waterproof packaging reduce the risk of them getting lost or rusting.

Swedish production and recycled plastic
The aim of the ESSBOX+ system is to organise and simplify the working day, but an important part of the development has also been to create a more climate-friendly product. The Store-It crate and parts of the ESSBOX Organize-It case are now made from recycled plastic, which has an approximately 50 % lower climate impact than virgin plastic.
– One of the goals is for the whole case and even the screw boxes to be made from recycled plastic. However, the material is milky and cloudy and varies widely in colour, so we still need to test it – says Christofer Lindberg, who is responsible for the technical side of product development.
According to Christofer, moving production from Taiwan to Sweden has also had a positive effect from a sustainability point of view:
– Transporting an ESSBOX case from Taiwan to our warehouse in Ulricehamn meant emissions of 1.7 kg CO2. Now that we bring the case from Småland, it produces 20 g CO2.
The choice of recycled materials and moving production from Taiwan to Sweden have therefore reduced the climate impact.
Developed together with professionals
ESSVE has a long tradition of developing new, innovative products in collaboration with carpenters. Swedish carpenter Julia Ardesjö is one of the tradespeople who took part in developing the ESSBOX+ system. Julia is one of the few carpenters who make staircases, and she has set herself high sustainability goals. Among other things, this means that most of the timber she works with comes from her own family forest, that she takes care of her tools and that, in the long term, she plans a joinery workshop powered by solar energy.
‘Sustainability also means that I make good use of everything I buy and that every screw made is actually used. I used to lose a large part of my fasteners. That is not sustainable when steel production has such a large carbon footprint. I believe the ESSBOX+ system will be a benefit for many tradespeople.’ – says Julia.
